Michael Deane

This is a pastel painting by Brian of Mary's cousin Michael Deane.
A photograph by a local professional Photographer, Eamonn O'Boyle was used as the basis for the painting.
It was taken at the opening of the newly refurbished Hotel, Teach Iorrais (Erris House). Michael was one of its first customers in the bar, and had been a regular customer of the hotel in its previous life.
In his youth Michael was a very handsome, debonair young man who turned many's the young cailin’s head. His favourite saying was ‘enjoy the beer, the lady and the craic’

Size : 550mm x 550mm framed

Price: £200

Gráinne Ni Mhaille or Gráinne Uaile

We just found THIS SITE about the Achill pirate Grace O’Malley. She was based just a few miles from where Mary’s father was from in Achill.

Worth a look.

Michael Hannon by Brian

Michael is a Nottingham-Irish poet. He's a regular contributor to Ireland's Own. Born in Dunmore, Co Galway, Michael was schooled in Skibbereen, Co Cork. He came over to pick spuds in 1946 and has been here ever since.

He's written books, recorded CDs and won national poetry awards.

We met him at a St Patrick's Day parade meeting in 2005. I actually painted Michael before I met him using a photo taken by his grandaughter which I found in a magazine, she allowed me to use it.

The painting was bought by Michael's daughter Anna.

The Good Shepherd by Brian

I painted this picture (pastel) of John Sweeney of Geesala, Co Mayo. John had herded his sheep for over a mile and he had to carry this one for the last few yards into the field.

This picture is still for sale if you're interested. Contact me using the e-mail button.

The Potter by Brian

This painting won the Holbrook Prize from the Nottingham Society of Artists in 2004. I based this picture on a pic in an old magazine.

I can't remember the name of the photographer, but he used to work at Stanton Ironworks where I worked as a fitter in the late '60s / early '70s.

I'm not selling this one. I like it too much.

Brian's Other Hobby

Long Case Clock
I have always enjoyed woodwork and was doing it long before I started painting. This is the second of two long case clocks I have made. For this one I bought the mechanism but I made both the mechanism and case of the first one. I don't have a photograph of it at this time, but will post one later.

Brian's Sheraton Sideboard

This was my third major project. It is hand made from Brazilian Mahogany with Burr Walnut Veneer. The finish is done with French polish.
Not a good photograph but then I prefer making things to photographing them.

Table and Chairs

I made the table to match the sideboard. Then a sadistic neighbour said "betcha can't make 6 chairs to go with it!!!!"

Tantalus.

Tantalus.
Used by Victorian gentry to show off their best crystal decanters. The sevants could see the contents yet were unable to help themselves to the odd tipple when nobody was looking. "To Tantalise them"
